Ironically, this isn’t the first time that I’ve written this “Hello world!” post. “Hello world!” is an iconic phrase in software engineering which has shown up in default software configurations for decades. Its appearance on the screen confirms that we have configured our environment correctly, and that we understand one of the most basic methods of logging text. That this is the second instance for me confirms that I neither configured my environment correctly, nor understood this basic principle. Without further stumbling fanfare: welcome to my blog!
My name is Colin, and I am a software engineer living in Edinburgh, Scotland. As of writing this post I have worked in the software engineering industry for about 10 years. I have opinions about the tech industry and emergent technologies like AI, and this is my space to write about it. I’m sure I’ll figure out what this site is for, at least I’m having fun, I think.
